Benazir Bhutto Assassinated

Bhutto34451530-27121153.jpg, 54, was shot to death after a rally in Rawalpindi for the Jan. 8 parliamentary elections. Her attacker then blew himself up, killing at least 20 others.

The assassination Thursday of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is a major blow to the U.S. goal of stabilizing Pakistan, a volatile ally with nuclear wgeneral_musharaf.jpgeapons that has served as a front line against extremism since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks

The abrupt loss of a leading pro-U.S. political figure threatens the transition to democracy in Pakistan and leaves both Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and Bush administration strategies vulnerable

Benazir Bhutto had been warned by President Pervez Musharraf and ss_071228_bhuttofuneral_tease_vsmall.jpgothers not to campaign so publicly, but she remained defiant. "I put my life in danger and came here because I feel this country is in danger

Pakistani officials say mass riots following the death of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto have led to at least 38 deaths and caused tens of millions of dollars in damage.

Was the assassination Thursday of former bhutto-sm.jpgPrime Minister Benazir Bhutto the spark that lites the powder keg in the Mid- East...sure could be... Pakistan is a nation now plunged deep into turmoil....and they have around one hundred nukes....don't sound to good...

All of this is happening one the eve of a free and democractic election which now is in doubt...The US has poured billions on a democracy in Pakistan and has got little in return...now the  Al-Qaida that was to be crushed has got another Baghdad...Al-18gilb6.jpgQaida and the Taliban ars causing riots...car bombing and secular killings...The have turned Pakistan in to a failed state...the biggest worry howerver has to be the Nukes...if somehow they were to get into the hand of these terrorist there is no doubt in my mind that they will use them...

The Bush administration for five year  have waged a war on two fronts...Our troops, iz-iraq-map-big.jpgthough tired and weary, have done what they were asked to do...with the Army and Marines
below full strength can we afford to fight on a third front namely  Pakistan ???
Turkey is stepping up it's efforts to destroy the Kurds in Iraq...Iran sending troops and equipment across their border into Iraq...Al-Qaida and the Taliban fighting on the borders of Afgan and Pakistan...We have had very little activity on the Syrian border...are they next or Iran ??? Will this now spill into Israel,Jordan  Saudi Arabia ???

"This points out again the extraordinary reality of global, violent, radical jihadism. We don't know who is responsible for this attack, but there's no question but that the violence we see throughout the world is violence which is not limited to Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan, but is more global in nature."

Pakistan in Chaos, Elections in Doubt

image3652584.jpgThe assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto less than two weeks before a crucial election throws Pakistan into chaos.

Many in Bhutto's party hold President Pervez Musharraf responsible for her death because of bad security. There is suspicion that Musharraf and those loyal to him hold some culpability. Activists, lawyers and students are calling for a boycott of the elections.

AND IN IRAQ

677ba0a9-cd3e-4a43-9b04-1f4ab6595769_w220.jpgLife in Iraq has shown sings of recovering...many areas are almost violence free...Because of the "Surge" and the overwhelming civilians willing to now help our troops deaths are down and this is a go_39066263_almansour_ap300.jpgod thing...people are starting to return to the streets felling a bit safer...

The military has done it's job over and over again and will continue to do so if nessary...The infastructure in Iraq is almost non-exeistence and corrupt...it's been five years now and the 52bc1190.jpgpeople still have very little
electricty...clean drinking water...proper medical care...and with some refugees begining to return the housing is tough...

The govenment of Iraq has let the Iraqi people down...they are still fighting within while important bills and laws must be put in effect...They must unify if this is to have any chance of happening...the people must be a part of that government....

Sunni militia brings calm to Baghdad area

By Jim Muir

_42711745_shiamilitia_getty203b.jpgThere is general recognition that the security situation in Baghdad and some other parts of Iraq has got significantly better in the past three months or so.

In addition to the current surge of US forces, one of the major factors that is credited with helping the improvement, has been the emergence in Sunni areas, of local fighters recruited by the Americans as a kind of neighbourhood watch. _44266545_abdulabed203.jpg

There are thought to be nearly 80,000 of them nationwide.

"People saw al-Qaeda doing terrible things. They were killing Sunnis, Shias, and Christians. There were bodies everywhere, being eaten by dogs. So we had to fight them," Abul Abed said
